According to new research from Nokia, mobile phone gamers are
looking to the next generation of mobile gaming to meet their needs to
easily discover, share and play fun and high quality mobile games. The
results found mobile phone gamers frequently play mobile games for an
average of 28 minutes per session, value improved game graphics, prefer
to trial games before buying, and find communities increasingly
integral to their overall mobile gaming experience.

There is a lot of data to look over in the press release so check that out if you’re into stats. Now as for an analysis of this newly found information, all I have to ask is: did you really have to do a study to figure this out? Give people samples, and give people shiny graphics, and they will gravitate to your product. Nokia will never reach Nintendo or Sony levels due to one thing: developers. People don’t want to waste their time making a game only to have to make sure it’s compatible with phone A, B, and C. The DS and PSP are the mobile gaming platforms of choice for anyone who is even tempted to play games. I have a DS with 17 games, and a PSP with around 5 last time I checked. A dedicated device will always be better at something than an all in one.

Which is why geeks wear cargo pants: smartphone, DS, PSP, Canon Powershot A510, wallet, keys, USB flash drive, either I’m very happy to see you or I just robbed a mall.
