DAVE Wireless Rebrands as Mobilicity, Launching in Spring

mobilicity

wind Mobile is obviously the most recent player to promise to bring competition to the Canadian wireless landscape, but dave Wireless has been working to get started as well, and today announced that they’ll be coming to the market with the name Mobilicity (mobile + simplicity = clever, eh?). The launch proper will begin in Toronto this spring, eventually spreading to Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary and Ottawa this year, and include both BlackBerry and Nokia handsets. There aren’t any specifics on plan, but they have dropped the words “unlimited” and “no contract” have been used. Like wind, Mobilicity will be focussing on “city-based customers” to start – the new guys have to start somewhere after all, but unlike wind, Mobilicity is funded by a Canadian firm called Obelysk, so they won’t have to chug through all of that foreign ownership paperwork that Globalive had to. It will be interesting to see Mobilicity and wind duke it out for the city-only market while they grow up and eventually try to compete with Rogers and Bell/telus.
