Social publishing company Scribd is “going mobile.” Actually, it’s not just mobile phones they target, but also the dedicated reading devices such as the Amazon Kindle, Sony eReader, B&N nook and others.

The first pillar in their strategy is the send-to-device feature, which allows users to send any of more than 10 million Scribd documents to reading devices and mobile phones. Virtually all mobile platforms are supported, including the iPhone, Android, Windows Mobile, BlackBerry, etc.

The other part of Scribd’s strategy deals with developers. The company has made public a series of APIs — the Scribd Open content Platform for E-Readers and mobile Devices (SOPED) — giving device companies the ability to integrate Scribd’s search, social and other functionality into their products. Two companies that have already signed on for SOPED include Interead and Onyx International.

Finally, Scribd announced that starting from this month, it will release a series of mobile apps for the iPhone and Android, among others. Moreover, they said the plan is to turn PDF documents in the EPUB format, which optimizes text display for mobile devices.
