HTC Desire coming to Australia’s Telstra in April

This one’s for our Australia-based Android fans. HTC announced that it is bringing its top-of-the-line Desire smartphone to the continent exclusively through Telstra. The handset is set to hit the market at some point in April at a still undisclosed price — all we know is that pricing will be announced “closer to launch.”

As you probably already know, specs wise, the HTC Desire is pretty much the same device as Google’s Nexus One (after all HTC made both phones). This translates into a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, HSPA connectivity, GPS, WiFi and a large 3.7-inch WVGA touchscreen. The company’s own Sense UI is running on top of Android 2.1, allowing users to access popular social networking functionalities with only few taps.

Also, unlike the Nexus One which comes with a trackball, the Desire rocks an optical trackpad, which some say works better. Personally I would dump both a trackball and optical trackpad for the good ol’ D-Pad at any time, but that’s just me.

Anyway, Desire is coming to Australia and now we’re waiting for announcements for other places. The upcoming CTIA Wireless in Las Vegas will most likely be the place of its official announcement for the U.S. market and from then on, I would expect to pretty regularly get press releases for other countries. Stay tuned…
