In approximately 8 hours the internet is going to, for lack of a better phrase, shit its pants. Fueled by Apple fanbois, mobile phone addicts, technology blogs, and mainstream media trying to latch onto what’s “cool” and “hip” these days, the internet is going to get filled with more articles, analysis, photos, and videos of the next iPhone than the Gulf of Mexico is getting filled with oil right now. Other companies who would have otherwise announced something today have smartened up to this mass hysteria, and are most are not going to bother issuing press releases or launch their products.
Once my American colleagues wake up, you can be sure that they’re going to contribute to the insanity. It’s our job after all. We’ll be joined by the likes of Engadget, Gizmodo, Macworld, and many other publications, making sure that you have enough Apple related news to keep you satisfied until the end of this summer.
You’re probably going to read an article discussing the price of the new iPhone, and how any other smartphone at that particular price point is doomed to failure. You’re going to hear, from a wide number of analysts, predictions for the amounts of units shipped. You’re going to hear iPhone fanbois, who were secretly jealous of all these Android devices on the market with 800 x 480 resolution screens, but ignored that element citing an improved user experience, talk so much shit about their new flagship device doing 960 x 640. You’re going to hear Android fanbois, who somehow think buying an Apple product is akin to strapping a ball and chain to their ankle, say that the new iPhone is still only 1 product available on 1 operator. You’re going to hear a few people crying, screaming, and some even taking a pistol and pointing it to the side of their head. Those are the Nokia and Symbian loyalists.
Whatever happens today, I just want to say this: I apologize for the flood of pseudo important shit that’s going to flood the internet over the next 24 to 48 hours. I’ve got a few articles, non Apple related, that I’ll be publishing tomorrow, because frankly I feel they deserve more attention than the next Jesus Phone.
