We’re not all that keen on covering the Japanese world of high-style feature phones, what with them never seeing the light of day outside Japan’s borders. Call it jealously if you want, but it’s just easier to not think about the cool WiBro and electronic wallet technologies that those Japanese feature phones are rocking these days.
So, it’s with great pleasure that we bring you the first ever NTT DoCoMo (NYSE: DCM) handset to launch outside of the island nation. The Fujitsu (OTCPK: FJTSY) F905i has been launched by NTT DoCoMo’s strategic partner carrier Far EasTone in Taiwan, and sports Taiwanese character support and works with the carrier’s i-mode data network.

Like it’s NTT DoCoMo forebear, the Fujitsu FOMA F905i, the Fujitsu F905i sports a 3.2-inch WVGA display, 3.2 megapixel camera, and Fujitsu’s proprietary audio technology. And, with a sleek clamshell design, the F905i is sure to bring a spoonful of joy to tech-hungry mobile enthusiasts in Taiwan.

Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo (NYSE: DCM) is working with Fujitsu (OTCPK: FJTSY), Sharp and Reneas to make an HSUPA-compatible handset for a 2010 release. The SH-Mobile G4 will boast 5.7 Mbps uplink speeds, which is quite the jump from our current 384kbps. HSUPA is the Yin to HSDPA’s Yang - offering upload speeds that match download. HSDPA is considerably more widespread, but by enabling faster upload speeds, stuff like transmitting live streaming mobile video can become more popular and, for those existing services, higher quality.
Samsung was the first to bring this kind of handset to market with the SCH-M470, but more networks are supporting the technology, and accordingly many more phones will be following. It’s generally easy to think of mobile data usage as a one-way street, but with HSUPA and other high-speed uplink networks gathering steam, I think we’ll have some very interesting doors opening. What do you think - is mobile video the biggest thing to gain from faster upload speeds, or are there other, more impressive possibilities?

In DoCoMo, Fujitsu

Probably the coolest thing out of CEATEC is this new, fully-functional separating phone from NTT DoCoMo (NYSE: DCM) dubbed appropriately Separate Keitai (handset). By communicating via Bluetooth, you can pull this phone apart and keep talking on one end while doing business on the other. Magnets make it highly reconfigurable and provide some very imaginative possibilities. The touchscreen seems sharp enough in action and handles video just fine, but details (beyond it running Symbian S60) are hard to come by. According to representatives, “This is a concept model so we have not decided a schedule for practical application.” Even if it were getting ready for production, don’t expect this one overseas anytime soon, like most fun oriental gadgets.

In DoCoMo, Fujitsu, LTE, Nokia

Fujitsu (OTCPK: FJTSY) has been chosen by NTT DoCoMo (NYSE: DCM) to be a supplier of the core networking systems (EPC, or “Evolved Packet Core”) for the next-gen LTE (4G) network. This follows a 2006 deal for Fujitsu to develop and manufacture the wireless base stations and handsets for the network. The new systems will integrate with Nokia (NYSE: NOK) hardware and software being installed there too.
These sorts of stories are interesting enough in their own right, but the real story is who is getting in there early and getting their networking kit deployed - in this case you’ll notice a traditional Japanese vendor in Fujitsu, but also Nokia working hard to establish a foothold.
The testing these two companies will do by deploying these networks is invaluable for further sales - after all, the best testing you can do is “real-world” - in this case, to sell it to customer #1, fix any bugs, and then replicate, replicate, replicate!!

You mean companies can sue for copyright infringement on the design of a particular handset? That must have been news to Toshiba (OTCPK: TOSBF), seeing as how they blatantly copied a RakuRaku handset made by Fujitsu (OTCPK: FJTSY). You see, the Toshiba Kandan Keitai 821T is an almost carbon-copy of the Fujitsu Foma RakuRaku Phone III, prompting NTT DoCoMo (NYSE: DCM) and Fujitsu to get their lawsuit-on with Toshiba in the cross-hairs.
The suit states that Fujitsu has been designing the RakuRaku phones for senior citizens and that Toshiba has copied the RakuRaku Phone III’s button layout and interface, with a body that bears a striking resemblance to the original. DoCoMo apparently warned Softbank (OTCPK: SFTBF) prior to the launch of the Tosh 821T, but Softbank decided to launch the 821T as a handset for the “junior population.” DoCoMo is seeking to have Softbank Mobile pull the Toshiba 821T off the market.
Something tells us that NTT DoCoMo and Fujitsu has a pretty strong case on their hands. This isn’t China…

Again it’s the Japan where we see some of the coolest devices being released. This time we present you with the Fujistu F705i, a device that prides itself to be the world’s slimmest waterproof phone on the planet. At just 13.7mm, they’re most certainly right about that one. And best of all, it’s not a candybar shaped phone - it’s a clamshell! Available through NTT DoCoMo (NYSE: DCM) — that’s in case you’re living/working in Japan. Otherwise cry, what else can you do… More photos follow after the jump.

Cry if you’re not in Japan, cause they are about to get one of the best mobile phones, like ever! The Fujitsu (OTCPK: FJTSY)-manufactured F905i is the mobile TV (1Seg) enabled device and among other things comes with the 3.2 MP camera with autofocus, memory expansion slot and full HTML web browser. So what’s so special about it? Well, it has a huge 3.2″ swinging screen which can display resolution of up to 480×862 pixels in 16 million colors. That’s WIDE VGA baby — actually it’s even more! Eat this iPhone, Nokia (NYSE: NOK) and everyone else. Way to go Fujitsu. Now, please enter other markets and show the old dogs some new tricks. I’m sure many of us will appreciate it.

In an era of ever diminishing handset footprints, there are undoubtedly some people feeling a bit left out in the cold. Namely, those people looking for an easy-to-use, easy-to-read mobile phone. Fujitsu has just revealed their solution to simplifying the mobile-phone experience - the RakuRaku IV. The large 2.6 inch screen displays larger fonts, as do the big buttons - making it easier to read and interact with the phone. Noise reduction and sound leveling help to improve audio clarity and reception quality, respectively.
Mobile phone users looking for an “easy” phone don’t have to sacrifice the finer things - the RakuRaku IV rocks a camera, GPS receiver (with nav software) and an external pen scanner. The pen scanner makes text input as easy as possible - allowing the user to scan characters from an accompanying booklet.

Unfortunately, it looks like the Fujitsu RakuRaku IV will only be making the lives of Japanese citizens a little easier - we’re not expecting the RakuRaku IV to make it outside of the island nation.

NTT DoCoMo (NYSE: DCM) today launched the Fujitsu (OTCPK: FJTSY)-made FOMA F904i, powered by Symbian OS with MOAP running on top of it. The new clamshell device allows users to enjoy the one-seg mobile TV on the 3.1″ rotatable 16:9 240×432 full wide screen. The bad thing is that this device will most probably be sold ONLY in Japan. I hear you crying - you’re not alone.

WiMAX looks to be emerging as the wireless broadband protocol of choice in the US and abroad. If only there were some way to fix the ridiculous power drain imposed by the WiMAX transmitter. Oh wait! There is a way! Fujitsu (OTCPK: FJTSY) Laboratories Ltd. developed a technology to kick WiMAX transission amplifier efficiency into high gear! With 70% of total power going to the transmission amplifier, it makes sense to make it as efficient as possible.
