Social networking is definitely the hottest show in the tech-game right now, and bringing it to the mobile space is a logical step. O2 seems to understand the need to bring the most popular social networks to its customers – the UK wireless carrier has just inked deals with MySpace and Facebook to provide mobile access to O2 UK subscribers.
With O2 rumored to have lost out on the exclusive carrier-rights to the popular UK social network Bebo, it looks like they’re trying to redeem themselves with the top names in social networking. O2 is putting the final touches on the MySpace and Facebook deal and will go live with the mobile services in November. Until then, O2 is planning to rollout their new broadband network on October 15.
Broadband and MySpace/Facebook in the next couple months? O2 UK customers are getting their holiday presents a little early this year.
Combined with O2’s exclusive deal with Apple to hock iPhones on the island-nation, O2 is taking shape as a major player in the UK wireless market.
