The iPhone Dev Team have done it, just as planned. The yellowsn0w iPhone 3G unlock application has arrived. The version is 0.9.1 beta… That’s right, it’s still in ‘beta’, so do use it at your own risk. Backup your data before you attempt this! Please!
In order to use yellowsn0w, you first have to upgrade to the 02.28.00 baseband (2.2 Firmware). If you attempt to run yellowsn0w on anything but this baseband, the app will silently quit once it detects the wrong version to avoid any damage. You’ll also need to jailbreak your device with QuickPWN or the PwnageTool. Lastly, once you have everything setup, you can use Cydia or Installer (from one of the repositories below) to install yellowsn0w, and you’re off to the races!

Installer: http://i.yellowsn0w.com/
To read more about the yellowsn0w unlock go ahead and visit the iPhone Dev Team Blog. Lots of great information there, and I highly recommend you read details there before you proceed.
Also, I would really be interested to hear your experiences in setting up and running the yellowsn0w unlock. If you run into any problems, situations or anything else crazy you think we should all know about, feel free to shoot me a message or leave a comment. Even though yellowsn0w is here, the app is in beta, so there are going to be a few bugs here and there to smooth out!
Best of luck!
