Anyone that knows me, knows that I love the classic gaming scene. I’ve got my Wii full to the brim with old NES, Super NES, NEO GEO, Sega Genesis games and more. Some of those classic games never get old (for me anyway). Perhaps that’s why when I heard ‘Duck Hunt’ was available for the iPhone and iPod Touch via the App Store… I got a little excited. Then I calmed down. Then I told my girlfriend. Then she said ‘so what?’. Then I shutup and left it alone. 🙂
To get to the point of my post here, is that the aforementioned ‘Duck Hunt’ app has actually been removed from the App Store at Nintendo’s request. Developed by Lucas Mansfield, the iPhone and iPod Touch game was removed due to alleged copyright infringement. The app was a nice little 99 cent gem that looks/feels/sounds exactly like the original game for the NES. No doubt Nintendo was not pleased about this.
Mansfield did note that he will try and rework and update the game to remove any offending graphics and sound while staying as true to the original as he can. Should be interesting to see how it turns out if and when it hits the App Store.
I wonder if we’ll see Nintendo make an appearance in the App Store, or perhaps even in the ‘premium’ games section rumored to be coming to the App Store this summer? Doubt it. But you never know. Might be a nice avenue for Nintendo to pump out more of those hard-to-stop-playing classic games. Or Maybe Nintendo should produce a phone/gaming console? Wii Phone?… Hmmmmm… haha…
Have a great weekend everyone!
