Kodak and Scalado

Mobile imaging software company Scalado is joining forces with Eastman Kodak Company for the newly announced SpeedTags technology, which will be implemented in Kodak’s upcoming KSP-720060 TRUESENSE enabled image signal processor (ISP), as well as follow-on stand-alone ISP companion chips. As a result, the future camera-equipped device — yap, that includes camera phones, too — which use the mentioned ISP will feature quick and easy management of large files and a significant improvement in overall JPEG image handling performance.

Kodak’s Chris McNiffe said that he expects the combination of Scalado’s SpeedTags and Kodak’s advanced image processing will result in best in class end user experience for “capturing, storing, retrieving and manipulating images directly on mobile phones and other portable devices.”

No dates were given, unfortunately. We can only hope we’ll see the first SpeedTags-powered camera phones being announced this year. In the meantime, there’s so much choice in the 8-megapixel camera phone space, with most of the devices promising to deliver serious image quality…
