Roughly a year ago, Google launched the first Android Developer Challenge to spur the application development for its mobile platform. Now they’re doing it again with ADC 2, to bring more apps to all those upcoming phones.
Full terms and conditions are still not available (coming in June), but we have the list of 10 specially-designated categories:
- Education/Reference
- Games: Casual/Puzzle
- Games: Arcade/Action
- Social Networking
- Lifestyle
- Productivity/Tools
- Media
- Entertainment
- Travel
- Misc
An application can only be submitted to a single category, it must run on Android 1.5 and be in English. Submission site will open in August, and there will also be a special ADC 2 judging app in the Android Market. Category winners get $100,000, while 2nd and 3rd place win $50,000 and $25,000, respectively. As for the overall winners, developers of the first three apps across all categories go home with additional $150,000, $50,000 and $25,000, respectively, an amount that’s added on their category winning prize.
Additional details are available at a dedicated page on Google Code.
