Fring is out with the new version of their app for Symbian S60 devices. Fring 3.40 prides itself with new options that allow mashing up all your separate communities of friends into one manageable mobile interface. As a result, you can set to have a single contact carrying multiple listings of a friend and under that contact see whether he or she is currently available via fring, Skype or MSN, and other IM services. Moreover, the updated Fring allows you to control how your fring world sees you by updating fring profile photo, mood status and nickname.
So how do you do it?
- First you’ll need the latest version of Fring. Download page is here.
- Then to merge together multiple contacts, follow these steps: In buddy list, select the user you want to merge > Go to “Manage buddies” –> “Merge buddies” –> it will take you to your buddy list. Scroll down to other names for the same contact that you’d like to merge –> Click “OK” to check the box next to each –> Hit “Save” and you’re done. Then repeat this step for every contact you want to merge.
- To update your profile click on “Options” –> “Edit my profile” –> “Options” –> and choose “Update picture” or “Update mood text” or “Change nickname.”
- When initially registering to fring, you will be alerted of all your GSM and social community friends who are already fringsters. Once you start using fring, the service will let you know when other friends become fringsters by clicking “Options” –> “Manage buddies” –> “Friend finder.”
It may sound complicated, but it takes more time only initially. Afterwards, you’ll reap the benefits of having your contacts organized in the easiest possible manner.
Finally, for those using a Windows Mobile smartphone or the Apple iPhone, an updated version with these new features is coming to their platform in near future. Stay tuned, and in the meantime check out the video after the jump explaining the new features of the Fring 3.40. Enjoy!
