The Palm Pre has an awesome OTA system for firmware updates. In fact, any Pre users out there that are using this will no doubt have experienced this for the 1.0.2 update. Another firmware update is rumored to hit us in the next couple of weeks, with tweaks to improve text messaging and battery life… But I suppose we’ll see when it finally does come down the air to our devices.
Interestingly enough, Engadget stumbled upon some support documents that give us Palm’s point of view on OS updates. Basically, Palm will force you to download the latest updates (automatically) whether you want to or not. Any updates will be downloaded and installed on your device within two days of becoming available. Think you can avoid the update by ignoring prompts? Try again. After 7 days and 4 install prompts the Pre will offer a 10 minute countdown and from there, automatically begin the update.
Note to all Palm Pre users: You Will OBEY! 😛
You can check out the Palm webOS updates support doc right here. This seems just a touch heavy handed to me… First the whole tethering thing, now this. Let me know your thoughts on this one in the comments.
