iPhone client for my favorite note-taking tool, Evernote, has been updated to better sing along iPhone 3.0 software. It’s a big update, meaning some cool new features are included, while at the same time, existing functionalities upgraded. Here’s what’s new:
- Improved synchronization and search. Evernote folks have completely rewritten the data synchronization part of the application to take advantage of the new iPhone 3.0 capabilities. All your notes (not their entire contents, though) are now synced locally on the iPhone/iPod Touch, and as a result, searching for notes is much faster now. In addition, “Pending” tab is out, and a note that needs to be uploaded to the server will be displayed in the normal note list, allowing you to edit it at any time, even before it’s been synced!
- Geo-tagging of notes is improved. You can push the “pin” button to see all of your notes displayed on a map.
- Grouping. You can group your notes by date, title, notebook, city or country. Moreover, you can instantly jump to a different group by taping the index bar, or scroll your finger over the index bar to fly through your notes.
- Improved audio recorder. Recording time is doubled and the number of required button presses halved. A new skin is there to make the experience smoother.
- Support for in-app integrations with other iPhone apps. We’re hearing several apps that sing along Evernote are coming. In addition, Evernote folks also talk about such subjects as sharing, local search, calendar integration, to-do lists, audio search, compass use, and memory training — hinting us that bright times are ahead of Evernote users.
- Some of the known bugs have been fixed, and the overall user experience has been improved (landscape view is way better now) with some of the steps being eliminated. For instance, now you can snap a picture and send it to Evernote with just a couple of clicks.
In a nutshell, if you haven’t used Evernote on your iPhone before, now’s the right time to start doing so. AppStore link is here, and a short demo video of Evernote for iPhone 3.0 follows after the jump. Enjoy!
