Chinese manufacturer ITG has announced the preorder availability for their new xpPhone, a beast with a 4.8″ display that, you guessed it, runs Windows XP. While it might be tempting to call something running Windows proper a mobile internet device, the xpPhone actually supports HSPA (AT&T, Orange, and Vodafone modules available), EV-DO, TD-SCDMA, is upgadeable to WiMAX and LTE, and has all the other wireless amenities, like Bluetooth, GPS, and Wi-Fi. The full spec run-down can be found here.
Windows Mobile is nice and all, and certainly shares some of the flexibility of its big brother, but the real desktop OS would offer every app the mobile poweruser could possibly want. It would feel amazingly awkward making a phone call on something that big and heavy, nevermind issues of portability. I wonder how much ITG asking for this thing… In any case, head over to ITG for a closer look at the xpPhone.
