AnyDATA unveils ASP-318 and ASP-518 Windows Mobile smartphones

AnyDATA, which is hardly a known handset maker (then again we did cover their earlier products), announced two Windows Mobile smartphones for carrier distribution – the ASP-318 and ASP-518. Let’s briefly talk about each of the two devices, specs wise:

  • ASP-318 – quad-band (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) GSM/EDGE connectivity, 3.2-inch QVGA touchscreen, GPS, 3.2-megapixel camera with auto-focus and flash, FM radio, dual SIM, SRS TruMedia audio and a microSD memory card slot. The device will be commercially available in Q2 2010 and will be marketed as the iMedia smartphone.
  • ASP-518 – dual-band 3G, 3.2-inch WVGA touchscreen, WiFi, 4GB of built-in storage, 5-megapixel camera with auto-focus, front-facing camera for video calls, dual SIM (works on both CDMA and GSM networks), SRS TruMedia audio and a microSD memory card slot. This one is currently marketed by China Telecom utilizing the well-known Phillips brand.

Finally, if you want to see these two phones in real-life, AnyDATA will show them (along with other products) at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Their booth is C102 in Hall 2.

It’s surprising to see anyone releasing phones on Windows Mobile at this stage.

Microsoft is about to debut its completely new mobile platform. Who will want the old Windows Mobile then? Besides, most handset OEMs have severely reduced the number of Windows Mobile phones they make, and are switching to Android.
