Following the release of the Android version, Intrinsyc’s Destinator 9 GPS navigation app has found its way to the Apple AppStore. In addition to standard turn-by-turn navigation feature (maps powered by NAVTEQ), the application also boasts real-time traffic updates, highway junction views, advanced text-to-speech, integrated Google Local Search, live weather updates, “NavStrip” and a comprehensive POI listings.
Intrinsyc (the company behind the app/service) says Destinator’s secret lays in the fact that it works better (than similar apps?) with your iPhone, thanks to the built-in support for iPod controls, and the ability to route right from existing contacts or text messages.
Finally, there’s support for social mapping, the feature that allows you to add some point-of-interest to favorites and/or share it with friends. We’re not sure, but this may be the result of earlier announcement of cooperation with GyPSii.
Destinator 9 is now available as a free download with 30-day subscription to all turn-by-turn navigation features plus real-time traffic. A lifetime turn-by-turn navigation subscription is offered post the initial 30-day period for $79.99 and includes on board maps of North America as well as real-time traffic for one year.
