JiWire announced that their popular Wi-Fi Finder iPhone application is now in version 2.0, allowing users to find and connect to any of a number of hotspots in JiWire’s network from their beloved device.

Among the new features included in the updated version, we highlight:

  • Ability to share your location with friends via Facebook and Twitter
  • Find free or paid Wi-Fi locations near you
  • Search for locations even when offline (very cool!)

To date more than 5 million people have downloaded the original Wi-Fi Finder, bringing the total number of monthly unique visitors on JiWire’s media network to over 20 million.

According to JiWire, 56% of people use a mobile device to connect in public WiFi locations, as the number of WiFi-enabled devices continues to grow. According to Morgan Stanley, more than 486 million new smartphones, laptops, netbooks, e-readers and converged devices are set to hit the market this year, and JiWire obviously wants its share of the pie.

Finally, if you wonder, JiWire’s global hotspot directory is built from both strategic partnerships with service providers like AT&T and Boingo; and user submitted hotspot locations.
