Kleiner Perkins adds $100 million to its iFund with hopes to cash in on iPad

Do you believe in the iPad’s prospects? More importantly, are you ready to put your money where your mouth is? One of Silicon Valley’s top venture capital firms, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, is so bullish on the success of Apple’s tablet that they’ve decided to put an additional $100 million to their iFund, to help spur the development of new apps for the platform.

Kleiner Perkins is known for its jackpot investments like Google, Netscape and Amazon.com. The existing iFund, established two years ago, has invested in 14 companies.

The way I see it, these guys know what they’re talking about. The question is – whether some other tablet maker can come even close to the Apple iPad? As you know, it’s not about the features here (some other tablet computers on the market are more powerful than Apple’s product) – it’s about the brand, value added services (applications), user experience, and other “not that measurable” things…
