Medialets, who provides a rich media advertising, and mobile analytics platform, has released an Ad software development kit for Android, making it the first cross-platform, network independent, rich media solution for mobile devices.
The new Ad SDK makes it possible to deliver rich, mobile specific ads to the iPhone, and little green robot devices like the Nexus One. Advertisers can then compare metrics between the platforms to see how well their ads are doing. By offering a single solution, Medialets makes it easier for the advertiser to reach the specific audience they intend to, and by comparing metrics from different platforms make it easier for them to alter their campaign to get the right attention on a particular operating system.
With the influx of mobile app usage, and smartphone users in general, having the ability to get your ads out to the two hottest platforms will be very appealing. With a sophisticated dashboard to see how the metrics between the platforms stack up, advertisers can see what ads iPhone users potentially would find themselves clicking on, and it’s the same with Android. Though they are both very similar in multiple ways, iPhone and Android users have different tastes and respond to different content.
Medialets will be facing some steep competition in the near future. Rumors that Apple could be announcing its iAd platform – on top of the new features of the iPhone 4 OS – sound possible. And if Google finally obtains AdMob, then Medialets sure had their work cut out for them. Apple’s iAd, however, will probably not be cross-platform, where AdMob is, and that’s where Medialets will find their greatest competitor. Only time can tell if the landscape will change when these newer mobile ad platforms are announced, officially.
Medialets is allowing sign-ups for new and existing customers to get their hands on the initial public beta of the Android Ad SDK.
