Best Buy is going all in with its mobile stores, as the company’s CEO said the retailer planned to open up to 1,000 Best Buy Mobile stores across the United States over the next few years.
For 2010, the expansion plans will include 50 to 55 big stores and 75 to 100 smaller stores, according to Reuters. Anyone purchased their phone from Best Buy? I bought my Motorola Droid from one and I think the carriers’ retail stores should be worried because it was a stellar experience. First of all, there’s no mail-in rebate bullshit. My Droid was $199 (plus taxes) out the door. Best Buy also has the advantage of being able to offer all the major carriers’ phones right next to each other – it’s one of the only places where you can compare an iPhone 3GS, Droid and Palm Pre side by side.
On the downside, when my Droid crapped out on me, the Best Buy store I went to was no help. The Verizon store was quick to fix the problem, as I had insurance on my phone.
