Apple CEO Steve Jobs seems to have porn on the mind, as he reportedly told an e-mailer that other platforms are more suited for the naughty business.
Apple customer Matthew Browing sent Jobs an e-mail concerning the blockage of an app from a Pulitzer winner and he also said Apple shouldn’t be a moral police for things like political satire or porn.
“We do believe we have a moral responsibility to keep porn off the iPhone,” Jobs reportedly said in an e-mail response. “Folks who want porn can buy and [sic] Android phone.”
The misspelling aside, this is in tune with what Apple has said before about the iPhone. At the iPhone 4.0 unveiling, Jobs also touched on porn for its competitors.
“You know, there’s a porn store for Android,” Jobs said. “You can download nothing but porn. You can download porn, you kids can download porn. That’s a place we don’t want to go – so we’re not going to go there.”
Of course, the big, fat porn hole on the iPhone is Safari. You can pump all types of filthy things in the search bar and are sure to come up with something to get your rocks off, even if there’s no Flash support. I don’t think many are clamoring for Apple to open up the App Store to a bunch of Ron Jeremy apps, but I think there’s something to be said about allowing your adult customers to be adults and have the option of installing independent programs if they so choose. Not going to happen, though.
