Palm’s App Catalog is up and running again after an unknown glitch caused it to go down for most of the weekend.
On its blog, Palm acknowledged there were problems downloading and installing applications from its store. It didn’t spell out what the exact glitch was, but it promised that the issues were now fixed. It also offered this advice if you ran into trouble:
The App Catalog is now working properly.
If you have any applications that failed to install during this time period, for each one:
1 – Open App Catalog, then tap the shopping bag icon.
2 – From the list, tap the app that failed to install (indicated by yellow triangle)
3 – From the app info screen, tap the “install failed” banner at the bottom
4 – Tap the “Try Again” button at the “Couldn’t Install” dialogue prompt
Coincidentally or not, this outage overlapped with the weekend launch of the Pre Plus for AT&T. I sincerely doubt the AT&T version sold like gangbusters but there could have been back-end integration issues that led to the outage.
Palm said all transactions that happened during the outage have been recorded and users will get the apps they paid for. I’m hoping that Palm can also help the developers out too, as this outage led to some negative reviews of apps. Hopefully, these kinds of things won’t happen once Palm is fully integrated with Hewlett-Packard.
