It looks like the rumors floating around the ‘net about Farmville coming to the iPhone came true during this morning’s WWDC keynote as Zynga’s CEO Mark Pincus announced Farmville will indeed be coming to the iPhone later this month in time for its 1 year anniversary.
All 35 million Farmville players will feel right at home when the game launches on the iPhone as the game looks nearly identical to the original Facebook version of the game. Farmville for the iPhone will feature in-app purchases as well as push notifications that will alert players when their crops are ready to be picked and other various activities going on in the game. Players will breathe a sigh of relief to know that all of their virtual hard work and dedication to their original farm on Facebook will be not for naught as their farm and friends can be accessed from the iPhone version of Farmville. The game will also include exclusive marketplace items such as a Snow Leopard, which is a nod to Apple’s Operating System.
With 35 million people playing Farmville on any given day, it’s highly likely the iPhone version will be hugely successful. Given that the iPhone will be the only mobile platform that will have its own version of Farmville, this can even be considered what the gaming industry calls a “system seller” meaning Farmville could very well push more sales of the iPhone. And if you don’t believe that, then you obviously haven’t experienced a grown woman crying over the phone about her crops dying while she was gone for the weekend with you. If only Farmville for iPhone was available at that time, then I wouldn’t have had to break up with her.
