Call me confused, but I always thought of Germany as a fairly well off country. Why are they getting a cheaper, stripped down version of the Nokia 5230 is something to ponder. Yes, the Germans have a reputation for being cheap, but damn, not this cheap. The Nokia 5228 is exactly like the 5230, but they’ve axed 3G and GPS, two features I’m sure many people will want once they realize that they don’t need to buy a sat nav system for their car, which they’ll no doubt be driving way too fast on the autobahn, all the while downloading hardcore German pornography over … EDGE. Really?
It’s 139 EUR, and that includes tax. You get a 3.2 inch screen, quadband EDGE/GSM, 2 MB of RAM, microSD card slot, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
All About Symbian does a bang up job summarizing all the varieties of the 5230 that are shipping around the world, and also note that the 5230 is a little over 30 EUR more expensive than the 5228. Since the 5230 has been out for a while, it’s probably even cheaper, and if you don’t mind going second hand, then you could probably score one for less than 100 EUR.
