After some super-sleuthing around the Samsung Mobile micro site, my buds over at MobileSyrup stumbled across what appears to be a new device, coming soon to Canadian shores. The Samsung ‘Elevate’ is a new vertical slider (full QWERTY), and at this point we really don’t now too much about it. All I can tell you is the device is ‘coming soon’, and from what I can tell, it looks like another lower-end entry into the market.
Here’s the official description:
Ready to give your social life a boost? Check out Samsung Elevate, the phone that’s designed to give you everything you want – without having to smash your piggy bank. Fully loaded with a web browser, camera, media player, and Bluetooth capabilities, your world online and IRL are perfectly connected at all times. And the best part? Besides being sleek and chic, the vertical sliding QWERTY keyboard makes tapping out texts and chats a total breeze.
I have to admit, when I first laid eyes on this one, I immediately thought Android. However, after a tiny bit of sleuthing myself I found the Elevate will have a proprietary operating system on board (TouchWiz ‘Cube’ UI, anyone?). Yep, it’s looking like it’s going to be a lower-end featurephone. Here are some of the specs I’ve found so far:
- 2.6″ QVGA TFT display (240×320)
- 10MB internal memory, expandable to 32 GB via microSD
- Bluetooth
- Media player (music and video)
- 1.3 megapixel camera
I think we can kiss any hope of Android goodness goodbye (so sad!). Still early days here on the Samsung Elevate, so I’ll keep my eyes and ears open for more information. Should be interesting to hear more specs, carrier details and pricing when they become available. I can’t help but wonder which carrier(s) will carry the Elevate!?
