Cellular South announced the expansion of its popular “Text Cellular South (CS)” service that helps customers get quick answers to questions about their mobile phone and account via SMS.
The free service was originally launched in November of last year with the introduction of the Android-powered HTC Hero smartphone, and now it’s available on all smartphones and for Advance Pay customers.
Apparently Cellular South is the first carrier in the wireless industry to introduce a text-for-help service for its customers, and they did that in partnership with Zipwhip, a text messaging utility for the web.
In a recent customer poll, 77% of Advance Pay and 66% of postpaid customers indicated a willingness to use “Text CS” as their primary method of customer service phone support, so I guess it makes perfect sense for the carrier to extend the service.
Android smartphone customers access the service by clicking the “Text CS” icon, whereas other phone users should text their question to 311. A dedicated BlackBerry app is in development as we speak and should be released soon.
