As FIFA World Cup was starting up last month, Rogers offered an app for Android, BlackBerry, and iPhone to watch the games live, as well as watch clips cached from a wide selection of shows. I got to spend some time with Rogers on Demand on the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, and though I had some trouble watching the non-live clips (I think my 3G reception dropped down to 2 bars), but the Portugal vs. Brazil game came in just fine. I had lent the unit to my girlfriend to test in the field, and she apparently gathered a crowd on the bus by showing the final moments of the Slovakia versus Italy game. My one niggling point is that the volume, even when it’s cranked up all the way, can be pretty quiet, especially if you’re trying to watching something in moderately noisy environment.
If you’d like to make sure you don’t miss a World Cup game, Rogers on Demand is available for $5/month, with a one-time $10 fee to access World Cup content.
