Good news, HTC Incredible users – there’s supposed to be an over the air update hitting the fleet of HTC Droid Incredible Android phones in Verizon’s fleet today with some of the rumored features we’ve been hoping for. But, before you start thinking that HTC somehow got it all together to package Android 2.2 Froyo up in Sense in such a short amount of time, you should know that the Incredible OTA (over-the-air) update is not going to give you a taste of Google’s tasty new dessert.
While its not Froyo, you can expect to see some HD video recording with this update, bringing it up to par with all of the other super smartphones that have just been released in the past month. The OTA update looks like it began to be pushed to users over the weekend, and it offers 720p HD video recording, a new Skype application, and an updated version of the MyVerizon application that allows users to track data usage. We’re not sure if there are any back end bug fixes, but I wouldn’t discount the possibility. The HD video recording feature is the main take away from the update, as you could just as easily manually update the MyVerizon app yourself. Some are saying that the OTA has been halted to make way for something greater. We’ll believe it when we see it.
As BGR reports, Froyo for the Incredible could actually hit the device at the end of July or early August. Along with the update, users can expect more than just the freshest Android OS update, but they can also expect the following.
- 802.11 n
- 3G Mobile Hot Spot
- HTC Widget: Email
- HTC Widget: News
- EAS Updates
- 720p Video Recording
- Amazon MP3
- Skype
- My Verizon
As it stands, most the of the listed features are already available, but the 3G Mobile HotSpot, and Wifi N features would be a nice addition to the Incredible’s feature set.
Have you received the OTA from Verizon on your Incredible? If so, have you noticed any battery life or speed improvements with the update? Let us know in the comments how it worked out for you!
