Listen up, Fring fans, and I mean that almost literally. The Android version of the application has been updated with some improvements and bug fixes. The app allows you to chat with friends over AIM, GTalk and even lets you make video calls where available, like the HTC EVO 4G or Samsung Galaxy S smartphones with front-facing cameras. For a while, the service has been spotty and audio hasn’t synced with video very well. In many cases, audio was just terrible, but now it has been fixed.
After updating my Fring app on the EVO 4G this morning, I can happily say that the improvement is significant. Calls don’t drop, buddy lists update much more quickly and is far more accurate and video calls are better. Video quality is still a little pixelated over Sprint’s 3G network, but slightly better over Wi-Fi. Audio has seen the biggest improvement, however, as I could hear my caller loud and clear either over 3G or Wi-Fi. The echo and tinny noises have also been fixed along with other bugs, according to Fring.
Overall, the fix is going to make the Fring calling experience much better. So, go ahead and update your app if you haven’t already by going into Android market, selecting Downloads and clicking on the update. If you don’t have the app yet, you might want to give it a try so you can chat with Fring users on other platforms (I conducted my tests with an iPhone 4 user).
