If you remember, we’ve talked about location-based mobile service echoecho back in January. It got several updates ever since and now it’s in version 1.7. The main new thing of this release is the auto-reply feature.
Your friends ask where you are at a given moment, and the application automatically replies, using your GPS co-ordinates to tell them.
Of course, privacy concerns remain the issue, hence you can turn off this feature at any time — it’s OFF by default. Moreover, there are comprehensive privacy settings build inside echoecho, which allow you to set which friends (address book contacts) will actually see your location and which won’t.
As echoecho folks are putting it – the old way required a single click to share your location with the world, the new way requires no clicks at all!
I like how echoecho works but I wonder whether it can tackle Foursquare and Gowalla. Maybe if they find a star investor who could give them some serious PR exposure. As a little guy on the market, they’ll definitely get my attention and consequently some space on IntoMobile. 😉
