SFR launches Telmap5 in France

Telmap announced the launch of the Telmap5 Mobile Location Companion by SFR in France under the name SFR GPS. As you may know from our previous post on Telmap5, it is touted to be the “next level of evolution in mobile location-based services.” Features include high quality maps and an enhanced search experience including the ability to search for proximity services in the immediate surroundings.

SFR GPS builds on top of SFR’s existing Find & Go service (also powered by Telmap) adding new features to the mix:

  • Widget carousel that enables quick access to nearby information from any screen within the application. For instance, customers can use it to find such things as the nearest Velib bike rental station, SFR shop, parking, hospitals, ATMs and more.
  • The intuitive free-text search, allowing users to access millions of points of interest from a variety of content providers and categorizes the results to ensure their relevance to the user.
  • The new and improved map-centric user-interface that places users at the centre of the map so they can make the most of their surroundings.

SFR GPS is available on the BlackBerry Curve 9300 and 8900 and on the BlackBerry Bold 9700 and 9000, and will be available shortly afterwards on additional smartphones.

SFR customers have free access to the application for local search, mapping and pedestrian navigation and for a monthly subscription, customers can also get complete turn-by-turn in-car navigation…
