Earlier this week, everyone was a-gaggle about what looked like RIM’s next BlackBerry Storm, and today, we have a screenshot confirming at least a model number and a few specs: the BlackBerry 9570 (mentioned yesterday), has 3G over EV-DO, Wi-Fi, and is running OS 6.
The 9500 family is the designation for Storm form factors, and the screen proportions certainly falls in line. The source confirms that it has 512 MB of RAM, a 5 megapixel camera, the same SurePress as the Storm2, and runs on the same old 624 MHz processor. All of that being said, this is likely a refresh being made to facilitate OS 6, much like the Curve 3G 9300 and the Bold 9780. The device we had seen with a trackpad is probably a prototype of the Storm to follow, with hopefully beefier specs. There’s still no word on the status of a mobile hotspot feature, but my fingers are crossed.
Folks might not be too excited about getting a moderate upgrade just for OS 6 and a nicer camera, but for those who haven’t bought a Storm, some updated specs (however slight) will be enough to keep it stocked in stores. For the rest of us in the know, the 9570 will likely be little more than an intermittent blip before a truly next-generation BlackBerry Storm gets announced.
