Run to the hills. Apple’s AppStore is about to get flooded with iPhone apps for political campaigns. As if it weren’t already hard enough to avoid political messages, WillowTree Apps is teaming up with Well and Lighthouse (a political media and strategy firm) to develop mobile apps and mobile web applications for political clients.
Their first work is the official iPhone app for the campaign of Nevada Senator and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. From that title, we know what’s coming – an array of pretty much the same apps, offering users the latest news, photos, videos along with the ability to share stuff they read/watch with friends and followers on Facebook and Twitter. Moreover, there’s the option to upload your own stuff to share with the campaign, with selected content set to be featured on HarryReid.com and social networks. Finally, thanks to the miracle of push-notifications, you’ll get the latest news the second it happens…
One app for a political campaign is cool, but (potentially) thousands are irritating. And this is especially true in a moment when AppStore surpassed 300,000 apps.
