Symbian users who enjoy listening to podcasts on the go have typically had only one way to get their fix, and that’s with Nokia’s own built in client that for some reason or another enjoys being available on some devices, but not on others. A third party client called Symbian Podcatcher, which is based on the open source “Escarpod Podcatcher” that was originally built for UIQ, has been slowly increasing in popularity and with their latest version they’ve finally added support for Nokia’s latest Symbian^3 devices: the N8 and C7. It’s not available in the Ovi Store yet, but you can grab it from here.
Note that this client will acitlvy go on the internet and fetch the latest episodes of whatever it is you listen to or watch. If you don’t have an unlimited data package then be warned, this can get costly. Also take into consideration the toll your battery will take if your mobile phone is downloading huge files, not to mention your memory card getting filled up with episodes you promise to yourself that you’ll listen to later … but never really come back to.
What podcasts do you listen to? Feel free to share them in the comments below. I’m trying to get back into podcasting and the only thing I’ve found interesting so far is XLR8R. It’s a music podcast that comes out once a week and has a mix that’s about an hour long. Most of the time it’s good. Funny how I used to enjoy shows such as “Cranky Geeks” and “Diggnation”, but now I just can’t stand them. Our very own IntoMobile podcast has ceased for reasons that escape me, probably a time zone issue, that and we’re all more busy these days.
Oh and of course how could I forget All About Symbian’s weekly podcast, and Steve Litchfield’s “Phones Show“.
