Twitter is updating its Android app and the micro-blogging client is getting a host of new speed and performance improvements.
The new Android app is available now and the company said you can look forward to:
Tweet details page. We changed the layout of the timeline and introduced a Tweet details page, which you can access by simply clicking on a Tweet. This feature – which is already available in Twitter for iPhone, Twitter for iPad and Twitter for Windows Phone – makes it easier to click on links and reply to, retweet, or favorite a Tweet.
Speed. The app is now even faster. In this version, we’ve tried a new way of drawing a timeline of Tweets that optimizes for scrolling speed. Try it out, and you’ll see how much faster and smoother the timeline loads and scrolls
The company has also added a lot of polish to the Android app and this includes the ability to pull to refresh – which iPhone app users are already accustomed to – swipe to reveal and getting the option to quote a tweet.
The new Twitter Android app is available for devices with the 2.1 software and above and I’ve already throw it on my myTouch 4G and it’s pretty solid.
What I find most interesting is that this is the second social-networking giant to give its Android app some love. Facebook also updated its app for the little green robot and it puts the program on par with the other versions.
Part of the reason for this is that the Google mobile platform is gaining some credibility from developers is that the sales are definitely taking off. The little, green robot is outselling the iPhone and BlackBerry in the United States and it is poised to have a good holiday season.
