A company called Pushpins is joining the “mobile coupons revolution” with a newly launched iPhone app. Available as a free download, Pushpins delivers instant coupons and rewards to shoppers when they use their iPhones to scan UPC barcodes at the grocery store. At the moment, the service is supported in more than 2,000 stores nationwide — including Safeway, ShopRite, Vons, Pavilions, Dominick’s, Carr’s, Genuardi’s and Tom Thumb.
To use the app, you need to check-in at a local store and then do some product scanning. Pushpins on its end will return a list of coupons for those and related products, which you can wirelessly add to your store-issued savings card. At checkout, swipe your store club card, and the savings is instantly deducted from the total. Don’t understand this? Here’s a short demo video, showing how a real customer uses Pushpins to save money on groceries.
Of course, there’s also the Twitter and Facebook integration, allowing you to share savings with friends. Moreover, as you keep using Pushpins, you accumulate points to eventually compete with friends to “see who’s the savviest shopper.” Additionally, the top savers can earn some rewards and prizes.
Pushpins’ future plans include addition of new retail locations and an Android app, which is set to launch early next year…
