Mobile augmented reality company Layar announced that it has secured 10 million EUR ($14 million) in a new funding round. Intel Capital led the round, which also saw existing investors Sunstone Capital and Prime Ventures participating.
The new money will be used towards further development of Layar’s product and platform to “drive meaningful content and usage of augmented reality.” More specifically, the company wants to focus on working with developers and brands to make it easier to discover Layar content as well as further investing in the capabilities of the platform.
Layar offers three products – Reality Browser (mobile app for iOS, Android and Bada devices), Player (that allows embedding of Augmented Reality into any mobile app) and Platform (which is the environment for the creation, testing and publication of Augmented Reality content).
To download Layar on your smartphone, search for “layar” in the app store market you use — again, it’s available in the Apple AppStore, Android Market and Samsung Apps.
