Location media company WHERE launched its new local discovery service that “empowers and inspires people to discover their next favorite place.” At the moment, the mobile application is available for the iPhone and Android-powered devices, with release on BlackBerry and other major platforms (though we’re not sure which platforms) expected by year’s close.
WHERE’s key selling point is in offering personalized recommendations and guides from local experts — i.e. the folks who actually know what’s hot and what’s not in the city. In that sense, the application will not only guide users to the best places, but also help them save some cash along the way. Or to put it in other words – you don’t want to eat where all the tourists are – where you’ll get both the awful service and a bad meal, while paying a premium.
Furthermore, each WHERE user is involved in the discovery experience. The more places users save as their favorite places or places they’d like to go, the better WHERE’s recommendations become.
This data combined with the recommendations from local experts is used so that WHERE’s Recommendation Engine can do its magic.
WHERE for iPhone can be downloaded from a link below, while Android users will have to manually search for the application in the Android Market.
