Back in November we said that Sony will launch its Reader app for the iOS and Android devices. Those with the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad will have to wait a bit longer, while Android smartphone and tablet users can already start e-reading. Supported formats include books from Sony Bookstore as well as ePub and PDF files.
There is a catch, however. Sony’s app requires that your device runs Android 2.2 Froyo or later. That’s kinda strange when we know that some of their phones — including Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, X10 mini and X10 mini pro — won’t get OS updates beyond 2.1 Éclair. Guess the mobile app division doesn’t communicate with their handset making unit…
If you do qualify — i.e. you’ve updated your smartphone to Froyo — search for “sony reader” in the Android Market and take it from there. That’s presuming you care to have yet another ebook reading app installed on your device…
