Well, it looks like we can put most of the Motorola release speculation to date, as CEO Sanjay Jha said the Atrix 4G and Xoom tablet will be released at the end of February. We can also look for the Droid Bionic and 4G LTE Xoom in the second quarter.
That’s good news for Android fans, as the Atrix 4G could be one of the top handsets of the year with a dual-core Tegra 2 processor, 1 GB of RAM, large touchscreen display and a fingerprint scanner. The Atrix 4G will also land with an optional laptop dock which will be powered by the phone and give you a full QWERTY keyboard, Firefox and an 11-inch screen.
The Motorola Xoom appears to be the first large tablet that will be a credible contender to the Apple iPad. With a 10-inch screen, this will be the first device to take advantage of Android 3.0 Honeycomb and this version of the little, green robot should be optimized for the larger screen sizes.
The Motorola Xoom with 3G should hit at the end of February but Jha didn’t mention pricing. Early leaks suggest it will cost at least $700 and while that’s comparable to an iPad with 3G and similar storage, we would have liked a cheaper entry-level option. Nothing’s set in stone yet though, so let’s hope you can buy this Android tablet for a decent price soon.
The Droid Bionic will also come in the second quarter, although there wasn’t anything more specific about the release date. This Android-powered smartphone should turn a few heads due to its ability to access the Verizon 4G LTE network.
The Xoom 4G should also land around that time and I’m guessing this will include a standalone unit that can access this and an expansion modem for the 3G model. We’re still not sure how this will work – or if it will be cumbersome – but we can’t wait to test it out.
