Location-based service provider Telmap launched its first Metrics Report to look at local search, mapping and navigation usage and activity conducted through Telmap based solutions.

This first report summarizes Q4 2010, revealing such things as:

  • During the period users relied on Telmap’s navigation in more than 100 countries, through more than 400 million kilometers. To put this figure in a perspective, that’s approximately 567 trips to the moon and back or 10,023 trips around the world.
  • During previous quarter (Q3 2010), summer travels drove the total number of kilometers to 0.5 billion!
  • Among the popular search terms, we find IKEA, gas, cinema and hospitals, while the popular points of interest (POI) categories include restaurants, shopping, gas stations and hospitals. Telmap thinks that this indicates people use navigation services for many of their day-to-day destinations and activities.

The report will be published on a quarterly basis and will be available for download from Telmap’s website.

Those unfamiliar should know that Telmap is a world leader in mobile location-based services, providing white-label, fully hosted and managed location-based services to over 26 mobile operators globally.
