With TELUS hitting a strong forehand on the news that their launching HSPA+ in Manitoba real soon… Rogers has chased it down to hit what could be a backhand winner down-the-line. If you don’t like my lame tennis reference, that’s OK… all I care about here is letting you know that Canada’s ‘big red‘ will launch their 3G+/HSPA+ network in Manitoba on March 31st. Nice.
The move will allow for the addition of more Android, BlackBerry and iPhone goodness to Rogers’ local lineup… and tablets? Yeah, those will be coming to the buffalo province as well.
Rogers GM for Manitoba, Laura Kwiatkowski commented on the news:
“We’ve listened to Manitobans and know they want a reliable experience and more choice. Now the countdown is on for the fastest mobile speeds available in Manitoba… We’re pleased to offer a new network to new customers that switch to Rogers and existing customers that will enable them to connect to what matters to them, anywhere within our new coverage area, anytime, on any device.”
Perhaps what is most impressive on this one is the 3G+/HSPA+ coverage that Rogers is already boasting. 96% of the population should fall into the new coverage area, and yes, while most folks live in southern Manitoba (where the coverage blanket is no doubt most prominent), you have to give Rogers a firm *tip of the cap* on this one.
I’m looking forward to hearing more from TELUS… I really want to see an updated coverage map for their HSPA+ rollout. I’m hoping the map I posted is out-of-date *fingers crossed*.
