Jonathan Kaplan, MD is the main guy behind BuildMyBod, an iPhone app that allows consumers to find a cosmetic surgeon, plan and price cosmetic surgery procedures, and make an appointment while on the go.
The app is designed like some kind of a directory and tool – it lists thousands of cosmetic surgeons, which on their end are encouraged to add specific practice information and total procedure pricing to their file. Apparently this is important because the surgeon’s fee makes up only 60-80% of the total cost, whereas additional money could go for anesthesia, the operating room, and for such devices as implants.
I’m not sure cosmetic surgeons think the same way, but then again I’m far from being an expert on that market. Kaplan himself is a cosmetic surgeon and he originally devised the BuildMyBod app to help build his own practice, but decided to include a database of thousands of cosmetic surgeons across the country.
The end result allows / will allow users to search for cosmetic surgeons by zip code and review different procedures by gender with pricing information that includes the total costs.
Aside from the iPhone application, BuildMyBod will also be available for Android users in the near future.
