HeyWire updated its social messaging app for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad users, allowing them to text for free while on the go. Scrap that, as you may know from our previous post on HeyWire (when we talked about their Android offering), the application enables users to do much more than SMS each other. HeyWire merges texting and top chat services like Facebook Chat, Google Talk, IM and HeyTweets (Text-to-Twitter service) to give users a simple way to connect with friends and family around the world.
New features included in this release are:
- HeyLo – the feature that allows users to see where their HeyWire friends are located in relation to them. You may want to find a friend for a launch or drink, and this is where HeyLo comes in handy.
- SmartSMS – feature that holds incoming text messages for future delivery, disabling sound notifications of incoming texts and sending customized auto-responses to your friends. Very useful when driving.
- Personalization – HeyWire now has its own store from where users can purchase message tones and HeyWire theme packs. Few of these are also available for free.
Additionally, there’s a web version of HeyWire (still in beta) which allows you to access the service from any computer.
