A member of Android forums claimed to be at a Verizon VIP event that was showcasing the HTC Thunderbolt. The member posted up images of an operational handset (not a dummy!) and unveiled some not-yet-know launch details. According to the forum poster, the HTC Thunderbolt will land on March 3rd or 4th, a date that coincides with the March 4th date tweeted yesterday by the Best Buy store in Roseville, California. The poster also claimed the Thunderbolt will debut with an unlimited 4G data plan for $30 per month.
The pricing for Verizon’s LTE data plans has remained a mystery. While the carrier was happy to flaunt its bevy of 4G devices at CES 2011, the executives on stage would not comment on the data pricing plans for its upcoming LTE devices. In the past, Verizon has hinted at switching to tiered data plans, a move its rival AT&T made last year when the iPhone 4 debuted.
Currently, Verizon offers an unlimited plan for $30 for all its smartphone models. In June last year, AT&T dropped its unlimited plan and switched to a 2GB plan for $25 per month. If Verizon switches to tiered plans, it would most likely adopt a pricing scheme that meets or exceeds AT&T’s plan. Until Verizon formally announces its 4G plans, we will keep our fingers crossed that this post is correct and the wireless carrier will be offering an unlimited 4G option for $30 a month.
