
We’ve already talked about location-based mobile marketing service provider Placecast in the past. Now they’ve found a big partner to push the adoption forward – AT&T.
Together the two companies are launching ShopAlerts by AT&T to deliver special offers to opt-in customers when they are near a participating store or brand in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and San Francisco.
The technology behind the service creates the so called “geo-fence” — a virtual-perimeter around a retail location, event or any geographic area — in order to deliver appropriate location-specific messages. Participating consumers receive relevant marketing messages like valuable offers, rewards and coupons when they are inside a geo-fence.
Among the initial sponsors we find companies like HP, Kmart, JetBlue, SC Johnson, Kibbles ‘n Bits, Nature’s Recipe and the National Milk Mustache “got milk?” Campaign.
