Former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown blocked Steve Jobs' knighthood?

A new Steve Jobs rumor is spreading across the Interwebs. It is said that the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Gordon Brown, refused to knight Steve Jobs in 2009 because he turned down an invitation to speak at the Labour Party conference. Steve’s appearance at the conference would definitely help Brown, who at one point was the most unpopular Prime Minister since polling began.

The information comes from an unnamed former senior Labour MP (Member of Parliament), who left Parliament at the last election. He said that Apple was aware of the proposal, which reached the final stages of approval, but was rejected by Downing Street.

Obviously the former PM denied the rumor with his spokeswoman saying: “Mr Brown did not block a knighthood for Steve Jobs.”

For the record, an honorary knighthood was awarded to Bill Gates in 2005, though that was not just for his business skills while he was at the helm of Microsoft, but also for his work on poverty reduction through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

So what do you make out it – Steve Jobs, the iKnight? 😉
