comScore is showing off their survey numbers for December through February, and of the 30,000 U.S. smartphone owners surveyed, a solid 33% had an Android handset of some kind. That lines up nicely with other recent data that puts Android as the top mobile OS in America, as well as the UK. Samsung was the top manufacturer, with 24.8% of the pie, followed up by LG with 20.9%, Motorola with 16.1%, RIM with 8.6%, and Apple with 7.5%. Windows Phone share has actually dropped since November, sitting at 7.7%, which is still ahaead of the 2.8% webOS claims. BlackBerry lost 4.6% share in that period, which is bad news with the iPhone trailing so closely behind.
This all sounds about right, and I imagine staying more or less the same for the foreseeable future as cell phone manufacturers start shifting their focus more on tablet devices. In a few months time, I’d love to see similar data on the burgeoning tablet market, when it’s just not 99.999992% dominated by the iPad. The PlayBook will be out, along with the HTC View 4G the G-Slate and plenty of others. Which manufacturer do you guys see winning out in the long haul? Will Apple be able to retain its lead?
