A recent survey by ChangeWave asked some 4,000 iPhone owners across AT&T and Verizon about dropped calls, and as you might expect, 4.8% reported dropped calls over the last 90 days on AT&T, while Verizon only reported 1.8%. Despite the difference in call quality, overall customer satisfaction is comparable: 82% of Verizon iPhone 4 owners were very satisfied with their handset, and 16% somewhat satisfied, while those figures sat at 80% and 18% on AT&T. Still, the amount of bad press has affected future buying decisions, as 46% of respondents in the considering an iPhone 4 said they would go with Verizon, while 27% were aiming for Big Blue.
AT&T recently announced the acquisition of T-Mobile, which should lead to plenty of spectrum for the step into LTE 4G, and hopefully put the bad reputation behind them, but for now, there’s still a lot of work they need to do to improve call performance.
Whatever the research says, there’s a general sense that the Verizon iPhone 4 was generally overhyped. Even the HTC Thunderbolt is demanding more attention, apparently. I think the expectation was that there would be a mass exodus of AT&T iPhone owners, freeing up the network and improving the reliability of calls, but that’s clearly not the case just yet. How many of you have made the jump to Verizon? Have you noticed a big difference in holding a call?
